Valentine’s Day is on like donkey kong.
After morning Zumba some afternoon yoga with Adriene,
I thought it was best that I showered and properly prepped myself for the rest of this questionable day.
I’ve reached the conclusion that I do some of my best thinking in the shower.
But it hit me that that song playing today was so much more than just nameless lyrics a college girl sang in the shower probably off key, probably for her neighbors to endure listening to…
“It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last thing on your mind today
It always goes to those that don’t deserve
It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
It takes everything you have just to say the word…
Whether today you’re celebrating Valentine’s day with that one special someone,
or whether you’re celebrating Galentine’s day with your special set of gals,
or whether you choose not to partake in this Hallmark Holiday,
listen up because this is gold here:
Valentine’s Day can be a marvelous day for some, and a complete train wreck for others.
Nevertheless, there’s something that we can ALL do today.
A something that I did out loud as Matthew West’s song played in the background…
Take the time to forgive your exes.
Whether you’re currently in a relationship, or not, or it’s complicated, or you own lots of cats,
without forgiving those who have hurt you in the past,
your future and current relationships continue to rest in jeopardy.
“So, let it go and be amazed
By what you see through eyes of grace
The prisoner that it really frees is you”
After forgiving you are truly able to move on to the bigger and better things that God has set forth in your life.
Especially to all my fellow singles in the world,
let me disclose to you this:
You are loved and treasured beyond your wildest imagination.
Learn to be happy even if you’re just friends.
If you have a crush on a guy, for goodness sake tell him! Live recklessly and love fearlessly.
“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.” (1 John 4:18)
You are worth waiting for.
Allow your life unfold in God’s perfect timing.
Trust the mystery.
And in the mean time, hold your own hand.
