It happened at church one week ago today:
The computer malfunctioned, as modern technology seems to do, leaving the lyric screen black as night. The band continued to play and the worshiping marched on, but it got me thinking. What if there were no lyrics on the screen? What if there was no sophisticated sound system, no fancy lights? What if there was no comfy chairs? Sounds silly right?
But what if it was just people, gathering together to learn the teachings of the Bible and worship in praise? Would all of these ‘believers’ still come and believe?
What if we met on a concrete floor and sang in worship using nothing more than a 6-string guitar, our voices, and sometimes some silly dancing?
‘Church’ has become, something that I believe it was not originally intended to be.
Francis Chan challenges us (yet again) with this one poignant question:
“What would the church look like today if we really stopped taking control of it and let the Holy Spirit lead?”
“I believe this is exactly what the world needs to see.”
Let us break the traditional norms of church and worship.
Let us have a childlike faith.
Let’s bring it back to the basics.
