Challenge Accepted – LeaderShape Institute 2016

After arriving home from college less than 24 hours ago, I hopped back in a vehicle to make the drive to Albion College.

120+ students from Central Michigan University were already there, wrapping up Day 1 of the LeaderShape Institute. I had been asked by CMU Leadership Institute to help facilitate the Challenge Course during Day 2 – The Value of One, The Power of All and I had accepted the challenge of doing so.

Myself and 7 other LeaderShape Alumni volunteered our time to help challenge other LeaderShape participants in the Challenge Course activities to change the way they were think about changing the world.

During the Challenge Course, we tied the various fun and challenging activities to the day’s major take away (The Value of One, The Power of All).

Some of the concepts we engraved into our participants that they mostly concluded on their own through debriefing included:
–  The Value of One. the Power of All
– Every individual is a valued member of our community and together we can achieve great things.
– Relying on others requires mutual trust and is necessary to bring our individual visions to life.
– Overcoming challenges as a group or team requires effective communication.
– Trying unfamiliar approaches is risky, but doing so is necessary for creatively solving problems.

Being able to return back to Albion College for LeaderShape was a dream come true, and it was an even bigger adventure and growing moment for me to take on a leader role as a lead facilitator for the Challenge Course. I gained more confidence in myself as a leader and facilitator and had the opportunity encourage others in their discovery of themselves as leaders as well. “Changing the way we think about changing the world.”

“To Lead, Live.
Lead with purpose.
Be bold about creating the space you need to grow.
Lead with integrity, live in possibility.
There are as many different kinds of leaders as there are people.”
