empty / half-empty / half-full / overflowing

Have you heard of the Bucket Man?
He encouraged others to be kind, fill people’s buckets (not be a bucket dipper),
make them feel important, love them, and live life with them?

Well, as followers of Christ we are called to be bucket fillers.

If you call yourself a Christian, by definition you are a Christ follower, and the Greatest Commission that Jesus laid out for us in the New Testament (Matthew 28:19) is our commission to GO into the nations and make disciples. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are called to go, pour into others, and bring others to follow Christ alongside us.

So, this concept of bucket filling.
Eleanor Roosevelt understood this when she said, “We cannot pour from an empty cup.”

In actuality, whether you see the cup as half empty or half full, effectively, we cannot pour out of either of those. Because if we pour from what we already have, and what we have is anything less than full, then we’re ultimately left with essentially an empty cup.
Simple logic, people.

Here me out: simply because we are human, when we try to pour out love from ourselves and our love bucket found inside our hearts, it is not enough.

We are left drained. Tired. Exhausted. Discouraged. Angry. Disappointed. The list goes on.

What then? What do we really need to be doing?

We need to be pouring out to others, what is overflowing in us from God.

When it is Christ alone that has made us full, it is from that excess love He gives us that we can in return love others. Not a show-and-tell love, but an action love. A type of love that is willing to listen to your struggles with the same intentionality as it will listen to your strengths. A love that encourages you when doubt starts to creep your mind. A crazy love that says I don’t care your past mistakes, I love you just the way you are right now.

A love like Jesus loves.

So ask yourself (and ask those you care about) –

Are you pouring out from an empty, half-empty, or even half-full love bucket?
Allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the unconditional love of our LORD. You are worthy.

Allow the love of the Savior to fill and overflow your love bucket that’s tucked on the top shelf of your heart and from that excess pour into those He surrounds you with.

GO and learn.
Love like crazy.
Remember who fills you up.
Remember whose you are.
